چکیده

OBJECTIVE EVIDENCES for angina pectoris, in the absence of proved myocardial infarction or grossly abnormal electrocardiograms, are more or less limited to abnormal electrocardiographic changes induced by exercise or hypoxemia. Similarly, while termination or prevention of angina is notoriously unreliable in the evaluation of "coronary dilator" drugs, their effects on provoked abnormalities in the electrocardiogram may be considered objective, if not completely reliable. Consequently, we compared the effects of sublingual erythrol tetranitrate (Cardilate*) and amotriphene (Myordilt) in selected patients with angina pectoris, who repeatedly showed positive Master exercise tests.

Nitroglycerin and other nitrites in the treatment of angina pectoris; comparison of six preparations and four routes of administration.

The close chemical relationship between glyceryl trinitrate and erythrol tetranitrate suggests that these 2 drugs, despite clinical evidence to the contrary, should be equally effective in preventing attacks of angina pectoris. This proved to be true when the drugs were administered by the same route. Thus, erythrol tetranitrate when administered sublingually (instead of being swallowed, as is ...

The prolonged effect of pentaerythritol tetranitrate on exercise capacity in stable effort angina pectoris.

We studied the effect of a single oral dose of 40 mg of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) on the exercise capacity of ten patients with angina pectoris. The study design was a randomized double-blind crossover comparing the effects of 40 mg of oral PETN with placebo on exercise tolerance. Patients were exercised to moderate angina pectoris before and 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 hours after receiving the ...

Efficacy of the long-acting nitro vasodilator pentaerithrityl tetranitrate in patients with chronic stable angina pectoris receiving anti-anginal background therapy with beta-blockers: a 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

BACKGROUND The organic nitrate pentaerithrityl tetranitrate (PETN) has been shown to have ancillary properties that prevent the development of tolerance and endothelial dysfunction. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre study ('CLEOPATRA' study) was designed to investigate the anti-ischaemic efficacy of PETN 80 mg b.i.d. (morning and mid-day) over placebo in patients wi...

A clinical trial of penta-erythritol tetranitrate, a khellin derivative (recordil), and iproniazid in angina of effort.

That there is room for improvement in the medicinal treatment of angina of effort, no one will dispute. The clinical trial to be described was designed to test the efficacy of a khellin derivative, iproniazid, and the already widely used penta-erythritol tetranitrate, in the relief of anginal pain. THE DRUGS Penta-erythritol tetranitrate (P.E.T.N.) has the chemical formula CH20NO2 CH2ONO2 C CH2...

Effects of the cardioselective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent metoprolol in angina pectoris. Subacute study with exercise tests.

The effect of a cardioselective beta-adrenergic blocking agent, metoprolol, on symptoms and exercise tolerance was studied in 16 patients with angina pectoris. Metroprolol was compared with placebo at two dose levels (20 mg t.d.s. and 50 mg t.d.s.) in a double-blind trial in 14 patients. Compared with placebo, metroprolol caused a significant reduction of heart rate and systolic blood pressure ...
